At Castleroe Primary School the active online safety preventative curriculum is incredibly valuable for several reasons:
Protecting Students from Online Threats: It educates students about various online dangers such as cyberbullying, identity theft, and exposure to inappropriate content. This knowledge helps them navigate the internet safely and responsibly.
Promoting Digital Citizenship: Such a curriculum fosters good digital citizenship by teaching students about online etiquette, privacy, and the importance of maintaining a positive digital footprint. This includes understanding the implications of sharing personal information and how to interact respectfully online.
Enhancing Critical Thinking Skills: Students learn to critically evaluate the information they encounter online, helping them discern credible sources from misinformation.. This is crucial in an age where digital literacy is essential.
Supporting Mental Health: By addressing issues like cyberbullying and online harassment, the curriculum can help mitigate the negative mental health impacts associated with these experiences.. It also encourages students to seek help and support when needed.
Empowering Educators and Parents: It provides tools and strategies for educators and parents to guide and support students in their online activities. . This includes setting clear expectations and rules for online behaviour and creating an open dialogue about online experiences.
