Castleroe Primary School was extended and refurbished, and a new school with enhanced educational facilities was opened in 2007. The spacious building is completely accessible.  We pride ourselves in creating a welcoming and stimulating environment where each child is valued and every child is supported and encouraged to recognise and achieve their full potential.

We have five large classrooms which are bright and welcoming. Each classroom has an interactive panel, ipads and computers which give our pupils the opportunity to learn in an exciting and up-to-date environment, preparing them to meet the challenge of and ever changing world.

Castleroe Primary School has extensive facilites, spacious grounds and we are well resourced.

Our multi-purpose hall provides a substantial area for PE lessons and is also used for assemblies, concerts, community events and other whole school activities.  We have a stage which allows us to promote The Arts, and we use this area frequently for performances.

Our extensive playground  offers children the space to use and enjoy a variety of outdoor play and learning equipment.  A very active and supportive PTA have raised funds and installed a variety of outdoor playground equipment that enhances the whole school experience for our pupils.  We have used funding to enhance our play and activity based learning curriculum with outdoor resources that enhances the pupils’ experiences.

We have our own football pitch in addtion to our school playgorund.

Our large playing field situated behind the school building is used for PE lessons and a variety of after school sports led by our skilled teachers and in partnership with trained professionals. It is also used for hosting sports tournaments with other local schools, PTA events like our fabulous annual Colour Run and, of course, Sports’ Day.

We have our own onsite polytunnel, woodland and sensory garden.

We are proud to be an accredited Forest School, the first in the area, with trained Level 4 teachers with NIFSA. As well as making good use of our onsite woodland and sensory garden, we use the immediate local environment and regularly walk to Somerset Forest to enhance our experiences. As a forest school we proudly teach our curriculum in a multisensory fashion, employing a wide range of active teaching and learning stragegies and resources to engage and enthuse our pupils.

We play a range of sports in school and enjoy competing with great success in local touraments.

We participate competively in a wide range of sports including boys and  girls football and hockey, rugby, volleyball and netball to name but a few with great success!  We are affilated with Ulster Hockey, Ulster Rugby and Netball NI.  We have been crowned volleyball champions and are a team to be watched on the local football circuit, as we regularly pick up the trophies.  Our PE curriculum is the CORE NI scheme, and ensures that pupils are accessing all areas of the NI Curriculum.

Castleroe Primary School is well known for its creative endeavours.

There is a strong emphasis on The Arts, and children enjoy music, art and drama led by both our own staff and outside agencies including The Music Loft and the Ulster Scots Agency.  We compete annaully as individuals and in choirs at Coleraine Music Festival, in both Speech and Music, and are proud to have an extensive trophy cabinet!  Our pupils enjoy Art and Music lessons from P1 to P7 that give them an extensive experience of creative and expressive studies.  We employ the Hullabaloo Music scheme, which our pupils adore, and are motivated to engage weekly in well planned and structured sessions. 

We teach Modern Foreign Languages to pupils throughout the school.

 

Pupils across the school engage in lessons in Spanish under the tuition of Mrs Pauley and Mrs McGinley.
