The school was extended and refurbished and a new school with enhanced educational facilities was opened in 2007. The building is completely accessible for disabled people and the corridors are spacious. We pride ourselves in creating a welcoming and stimulating environment for our pupils.
We have five large modern classrooms which are bright and welcoming. Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and computers which give our pupils the opportunity to learn in an exciting and up-to-date environment. We prepare children for a rapidly changing world through learning in ICT. All classes from P1 t P7 have their own virtual learning environment where teachers can support pupils in their learning outside of teh classroom, for example, with homework. Children’s work is celebrated and displayed throughout the school.
We have a well stocked Accelerated Reading Library, that allows pupils to develop a love of the written word, while actively developing their reading skills and broadening their vocabulary. Reading success is celebrated monthly in whole school assembly. We also use Matletics, an online Nuemracy and Using Mathematics programme which supports both learning at home and in the classroom.
Our multi-purpose hall provides a spacious area for PE lessons and is also used for assemblies, concerts and other whole school activities. We have a stage which is most useful as we are a school who promote The Arts, and use this area frequently for performances.
Our large playground includes a soft play area for younger children and offers children the space to use and enjoy a variety of outdoor play and learning equipment. Our very active and supportive PTA have raised funds and installed a variety of outdoor playground equipment that enhances the whole school experience for our pupils. We have used funding to enhance our play and activity based learning curriculum with outdoor resources that enhances the pupils’ experiences.
Our science garden includes a willow dome and tunnel, woodland area, butterfly beds and flower/vegetable beds for each class. It provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the natural environment and is a great resource for World Around Us topics. We also have a mature woodland area, and teachers trained as Forest School leaders. We use all areas of our extensive grounds to bring learning our of the classroom.
Our large playing field situated behind the school building is used for PE lessons and a variety of after school sports led by our skilled teachers and in partnership with trained professionals. It is also used for hosting sports tournaments with other local schools and Sports’ Day.
